My sister and I experienced an amazing fall weekend at Unicoi State Park. We brought her family’s R/V and camped in the full hook-up section called Big Brook Spur.

We took so many photos of all the fall colors. We warmed ourselves by flickering evening fires. We hiked to waterfalls in the area, and trips to Helen via the trail that links the alpine town with the park. Twice, we arranged for the Lodge’s complimentary shuttle ride back from Helen, because we were loaded down with Christmas season purchases.

Which brings me to this point: we are returning for Christmas here with our combined families. When we were checking out, we talked with the lady at the reservation desk and what she shared simply inspired us, so we’re looking forward to returning!

      • Welcome 2024! The regional favorite New Year’s Eve bash is on Sunday, December 31 with a special dinner served from 5:30 to 8:00 pm. The ballroom doors open at 8:00 and partygoers will jam with the DJ tunes. Cash bar, party favors and midnight champagne toast are included. Reservations are now open and will fill fast. The Winter Black Bear Plunge, hosted by the Friends of Unicoi State Park, submerges you into the New Year at Unicoi Beach. Save the date for Saturday, January 6, 2024. Registration begins on the beach at 10:00 am. It’s all about camaraderie and chill, literally! But you’ll be warmed when the Friends Group stokes the beach bonfire and serves hot dogs and chili and turns on the music. A raffle, and a Sandcastle Contest for children under age 12, will be exciting for everyone. No reservations necessary for this beach party.

We’re coming back with the R/Vs – my family, my sister’s family – for the beauty and solitude of a North Georgia mountain Christmas.
