Add adventure to your vacation at Unicoi State Park & Lodge
Blog
Your next family escape doesn’t have to be the same vacation you’ve taken for years. The Adventure Lodge at Unicoi State Park in the beautiful North Georgia mountains has everything your family needs to break free from the mundane and step into a world where adventure awaits around every corner.
With so many options, the biggest challenge you will face in planning your stay is where to begin. We have a few suggestions. Ease into your vacation on the first day with some fun in the sun at Unicoi Beach by the mountain lake. Swim, paddle board, kayak, catch some rays and relax, because you will need your energy for the rest of your stay.
Day 2 is when the adventures begin. Start with the zip line tour of the incredibly biodiverse tree canopy at Unicoi State Park & Lodge and feel the rush of adrenaline as you glide through the sky above the lake, giving you a bird’s-eye view of this magnificently beautiful body of water. Rent a GoPro video camera to record your zip line experience and keep it with you as you make memories exploring the park and all the lodge has to offer.
Once you land, keep your heart pumping with a session at the 3-D archery and air rifle range. Test your aim and earn bragging rights for having the eagle eye in the family.
At the Tomahawk Challenge, learn the proper technique to throw a hatchet like the pioneers did and test your skills against your family member’s skills. This is an adventure you won’t find anywhere else in the area.
Our two onsite restaurants are the perfect way to end out the day and reminisce about the adventures experienced.
After an exhilarating second day at the Lodge, slow down a little by exploring the wilderness on a GPS scavenger hunt. Navigate the forest surrounding the lodge using your GPS device and find all the hidden treasures to complete the hunt. Get pictures of all the locations in the park when you find them and win a prize. There is no better way to learn about orienteering and to explore the great outdoors at Unicoi State Park & Lodge.
For some more time in the woods, take a hike on one of the many hiking trails available out the front door of the Lodge or head out on a mountain bike to add a little more speed to your day. Hike to the spectacular Anna Ruby Falls and the headwaters of the Chattahoochee River. When you’re done, head into Alpine Helen for a little shopping and a bite to eat.
By the time Day 4 rolls around, you’ll be ready for a little fishing. Take our fly-fishing course to prepare yourself for some of the best trout streams in the Southeast. If fishing isn’t for you, don’t worry, paddle board lessons and kayak rentals are available at the Lodge as well, both great ways to enjoy the lake.
