Spring at Unicoi State Park
Get Moving, Sleep Under the Stars and Choose Your Own Adventure
Spring Break will be here before we know it. Each year campers and outdoor enthusiasts of all levels and ages gather at Unicoi State Park & Lodge to spend time together and welcome the arrival of Spring. Families from Tennessee, Florida, Alabama, the Carolinas and from all over the Peach State travel to North Georgia to participate in adventure activities and make lasting memories. They make the time and the trip to experience the true adventure of time spent outdoors.
Kids and parents gather around fire rings, take aim at the archery range and swoop across zip lines in moments that are uniquely Unicoi. Disconnecting from devices and tapping into the excitement of choosing what part of the amazing North Georgia park to experience next guarantees that each day offers something special in Unicoi State Park.
Primitive Camping or Modern Glamping – You Choose
Unicoi campers decide how wild they’d like their outdoor excursion to be. For the family that loves to load up the RV, the full hookup sites offer the ideal set up. With water, power and sewer, visitors don’t have to give up any of the comforts of home to embrace the great outdoors. Our campers often find time to gather around the table to play games and settle in for cozy nights in their home away from home.
Tent campsites also have access to water and power. Families, large and small, pitch tents in the fresh North Georgia air surrounded by the Blue Ridge mountain hardwood canopy. Basic campsite amenities and convenient dump sites make more time for fun. Comfort stations provide a haven for campers when indoor activities are needed. Adventures can define their own version of roughing it when they choose this classic camping experience.
The Squirrel’s Nest is a site of primitive camping platforms. Campers looking to access their pioneering spirit, especially the avid Georgia mountain backpackers of the bunch, push the limits and abandon modern comforts to sleep under the stars. Surrounded by beautiful forest, families come together free from distraction by stringing their hammocks together across the platforms which provide minimal shelter. They return home with a renewed sense of what’s truly important and memories more powerful than a social media post can produce.
For those looking for more modern amenities than camping can provide, Unicoi State Park Lodge offers a number of lodge room configurations and 1 to 3-bedroom cabins throughout the park. Whether in the campgrounds, cabins or lodge we recommend planning at least one family meal in the Unicoi Restaurant – offering breakfast, lunch and dinner to overnight guests and visitors alike. More casual dining is available in the Smith Creek Tavern where local craft beer can always be found on tap.
Uniquely Unicoi Adventures
Unicoi Lake is the perfect place to try paddle boarding or kayaking for the first, second or hundredth time. Beginners find their balance in Guided Kayaking and Paddle Boarding Classes.
The lake is 53 acres. And once guests find their footing and their flow there are no limits to their discovery.
Another great adventure opportunity is our mountain bike trail – recommended to advanced level riders. The path cuts through fields, forest and woodland areas, and range from moderate to strenuous. Groups that are seasoned in this growing North Georgia pastime find Unicoi is the perfect place to get their tires dirty and the family moving.
Spring Break Tradition
Year after year, families return—some from right down the road, some from across state lines—to enjoy the best Spring Break getaway. No two Unicoi vacations are alike. Every family, every group, every adventure is unique from start to finish. Breaking the mold and customizing a springtime excursion free from lines and agendas is a great way to get back to nature, get back to basics and get back in touch with the things you love and the ones you love to do them with.
